“I am disappointed the majority of the members of the House did not agree with the Senate’s plan to bring meaningful changes to Mississippi’s educational system. Children trapped in failing school districts deserve an opportunity for success, and any further changes would only weaken the effort to give parents a choice in their children’s education. I look forward to passing real education reform next year.”
Charter School Legislation on way to House for vote
JACKSON – The Mississippi State Senate today approved much-needed education reform by passing legislation to allow public charter schools to operate in the state, Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves announced.
“Meaningful education reform is hard, we knew that before today’s negative vote in the House Education Committee. It’s hard because kids trapped in failing public schools don’t make campaign contributions, they can’t hire lobbyists, and they don’t deliver votes back home. All those kids have is a dream for an opportunity for success and a hope that someone in Jackson will stand up for them. I will not give up on my goal of providing every kid in Mississippi an opportunity for a better life, and Chairman Tollison and I are working together to find solutions to change the status quo.”
The Mississippi Public Charter School Act of 2012 would allow the creation of charter schools in the 120 schools districts that are rated successful or worse. A seven-member board appointed by the Governor, Lt. Governor and state education officials would be created to approve or reject charter school applications in those 120 school districts.

This number is in addition to the 50,000+ doors knocked over the course of the campaign before Friday.
The Mississippi Medical Political Action Committee (MMPAC) announced today the endorsement of Tate Reeves for Lieutenant Governor in the Republican primary election August 2 and the general election November 8, 2011.
“I’m proud to have an A rating with the National Rifle Association,” said Reeves. “As Lt. Governor I will continue to strongly defend the Second Amendment and advocate for the rights of sportsmen."
